With North Leeds currently leading the group they knew that a win against Woodhouse would all but secure qualification, however exam season was upon us and this led to 4 players missing, leaving North Leeds a depleted 10 man side.
Despite this, North Leeds felt they had enough to compete and felt confident after previous ventures to Woodhouse which had yielded success.
However, upon arrival, they immediately realised that their task would be tougher when they saw the pitch which ''looked like a garden cricket wicket''. Captain Daniel Holmes, finally on time for once, lost the crucial toss as the Woodhouse captain stuck us in.
North Leeds reverted back to their opening partnership from the St Chads game in which Jonny Taylor and Tom Deane opened, the captain keeping his faith in Deane despite his poor run of form. Immediately the pitch looked dangerous with the accurate Woodhouse bowlers getting some very variable bounce. Deane, however, looked in control, leaving and defending very well. The first wicket fell when Deane was run out going for two after he lost concentration and assumed the ball was heading to the boundary when in fact it was 5 metres short.
This started a North Leeds mini collapse with first Harry Dixon (0) getting bowled and caught behind off the same ball and then Taylor (5) chipping one in the air after the ball popped up.
Daniel Holmes and Adam Copley initially began rebuilding the innings but the runs were tough to come by especially for Holmes as his one and only scoring shot, the dab to third man, was out of the question on this pitch. Copley was the next wicket to fall and despite him playing ''Wasim Akram'' well, he was bowled by a shooter.
Charlie Whitehill-Sharkey joined Holmes at the crease and despite Holmes' commands to get forward, CWS ignored, contining to step across and to try and pummel everything through the covers. Just as Holmes and CWS were troubling Woodhouse and silencing the field, Holmes went for a tight two and was run out by a direct hit.
Although there was resistance from Charlie (18) and Cameron Deuchars (9) in which 6 of them were from a huge hit over long on which headed straight into the woods, North Leeds ended up bowled out for 72.
72 was never going to trouble Woodhouse and combination of the opening bowlers not the finding the right length and a good chance dropped by Holmes made their job easier.
Although wickets from Holmes and Copley gave North Leeds a glimmer of hope, that hope soon faded when ''Wasim'' started playing aggressive and aerial shots which evaded hands leaving Woodhouse to complete the victory with 5.4 overs to go.
This result sets up a huge game against St Chads in which we now know that a victory will guarantee qualification whereas a loss will take it out of our hands.
