The opening game of the cricket season is usually a glorious affair, unfortunately, as this is Britain, the weather scuppered this affair.
With Daniel Holmes and Harry Dixon missing the start of the game, North Leeds would have been heading onto the field with only 9 men, however captain Tom Deane won the toss and decided to stick his pads on.
Jonny Taylor and Deane strode out to the middle as the crowds began to gather, only to watch Taylor calmly play the first delivery and not receive the embarrassment of a platinum duck which a couple of seasons ago Matthew Wadsworth received.
With Taylor and Deane seeing off the opening bowlers with relative ease, St Chads turned to their 1st change bowler delivered the breakthrough and claimed the wicket of Deane, who was bowled round his legs for 14.
Jack Harland joined Taylor at the crease and quickly found his form by rotating the strike which allowed Taylor to play the aggressor and quickly dismantle the Chad's attack. By now JT was only dealing in boundaries and had passed fifty.
Then with Taylor(80) and Harland(31) both looking to push on, North Leeds declared after 18 overs due to the threat of rain. Taylor looked particularly downhearted as he was certain that was going to reach his hundred. Others were less certain.
After the standard juice and biscuits,North Leeds headed out to field.Harland and Dixon were given the job of opening the attack and within the 3rd over Harland had already removed the opener. However Dixon at the other end was struggling with wet ball and despite some wild leg side deliveries and yorkers that were closer to the keeper's feet than batsman's (much to Wadsworth's disgust) St Chads found themselves 10-2, with Dixon bowling number 3 with his only straight ball of his spell.
With the rain getting heavier, the quicks were rested and the economical Cameron Deuchars and less economical Deane were brought on. However, 1 ball after Cam's first wicket in 2 years, we were hauled off the pitch due to 'dangerous conditions'.
1 point isn't what we were looking for at the start of the day but it starts us on our way to qualification.
