North Leeds get table toppers 'COLLI WOBBLING' !

Andrew Rook28 May 2012 - 10:35

What a beautiful day to play a table topping tie at Collingham?

Captain’s Bull and Booth strolled out for the toss rolling back the 35 years since they first starting their cricketing days together which went back to Leeds City Boy’s under 13’s.

Booth’s career blossomed and he went on to play with the likes of Botham, Garner and Richard’s at Somerset whilst Bull went on to play with the legends of ‘Ale and No Pace’!

On a ground surrounded by million pound properties, Booth elected to toss up with a 20p piece which I thought was a bit tight as I thought at least he could have managed a 50p at best?

Winning the toss, Collingham were asked to bat and Tom Kilby quickly set about the North Leeds attack playing some nice drives down the ground. At the other end Charlie Powell (despite having a run feast the previous weekend) had not scored a run after 10 overs due to some accurate bowling from Jas and Alex.

The pressure ‘told’ and he smashed one to the Captain who took a brilliant diving catch to remove him. Number 3 Robinson followed shortly after with a smart C+B from Jas.

VC Stevens was then brought in to the attack for the first time this season and it was not long before he took out opener Kilby for a well made 56 then Booth, plumb LBW for 12.

North Leeds progress was helped by some excellent fielding with two run out’s which reduced the home side to 119-6, number 8,Neil Waite came in and his first innings he made 6, then after a generous caught behind decision went his way, played well in his second innings to take Collingham to 162 all out.

Andy (4-30) and Jas (2-40) were the pick of the bowlers however Tabbi bowled a tight spell taking (1-16 off 8 overs).

After tea we set about the home sides modest total, with Gareth and Elvis Hussain opening up – Elvis, who was under pressure to put a score together, did not disappoint. It was Gareth who went first with a good ball from Waite was bowled for 11. Faddi (celebrating his 25th Birthday, oh and by the way still never days work in his life?) drilled a full toss at Robinson caught for 10!

Rich Maver then got ‘bamboozled’ by Booth and was bowled for 5, VC Andy then came in increasing in ‘pinkness’ as the sun got hotter and hotter. He smashed a ball down towards the football stand to be caught on the edge and started to walk off only to be asked back as fielder Robinson had admitted to stepping over the boundary edge ( if only all cricket were played like this a lesson for all!).

Andy continued to ‘sweep’ Booth who was getting very frustrated ‘sledging’ a sentence that included Andy’s hair colour, cricketing ability, physique and questioning his parentage all at the same time?

VC then had one sweep too many being given LBW for 31, Elvis then took one on the pad’s with a lively appeal then started to take a leg bye only to be given out whilst reaching the umpires end ??

Lanky and Boyley then steadied the Captains nerves but then both perished for 18 and 19 respectively leaving us on 145 – 7. Jas and Capt then knocked off the final 18 runs required with Jas taking 12 off Booth’s penultimate over to win the match......

A well deserved win which keeps our unbeaten run going. I special mention to Collingham/Yorkshire Under 12 keeper Atherton, I thought he did a great job with the gloves – well done!

So bring on Kirkstall next week and hope weather stays warm?

That’s all folks!
