Again North Leeds Cricket Club teams have performed well this year.
After several seasons languishing in the lower reaches of division two the first team, after achieving promotion last year, has secured a top half of finish with several players qualifying for the league averages. The second team have repeated their feat from last year and come a close second in the reserve team league. The U17s were Denison Cup Finalists and the U 15’s won their league play off.
There is however a problem highlighted by the club Chairman’s Facebook comments from last weekend.
Several people are standing down from significant club positions and at the AGM in November there will be many vacant club positions.
These are;
Third Team Captain
Club Secretary
House Chair (Bar )
Events Chair
U 17 Manager
Match Refreshment Chair
Cricket Committee Chair
As well as this, and perhaps more importantly, 6 tea ladies are standing down from the tea rota.
The personnel standing down from committee positions are Ricky Chaggar, Steve Kelsey, Paul Philips, Armi Kundi, Nick Copley, Jess Wales and John Jackson. The club are grateful for their contributions over many years and all will remain at the club, the positions they held however are vacant.
The club needs players and members to come forward to help with the management of the club.
The club is run by a committee which is roughly 12 -15 strong. That committee and the tea ladies( a further 18 people) provide an environment that is enjoyed by the 33 players who played last weekend. Of the 33 players who played senior cricket last weekend only 7 players are either active themselves or provide family members who, at the present time, contribute to the structure that allows them to play cricket.
A cricket club is not sustainable if there are 30-35 volunteers to put on games for 26 players who play very little part in the running of the club other than turn up and get their enjoyment from playing cricket. Not only that but from those players who play at a weekend how many volunteer or take responsibility for ground preparations on match day without being asked by their captain?
Isn’t it time this changed?
Your club needs you to put yourself forward to make a contribution to the club to allow the cricket you have enjoyed this year to continue for many years to come.
What can you do?
Are there any takers for the outstanding positions?
If so please contact the Chairman or a committee member in the next few weeks without which, sadly, there will be changes in how you all experience your cricket next year.
