There was a huge amount riding on the final weekend of the 2025 season:
• The 1st XI were fighting to avoid relegation
• The 2nd XI were also battling for survival with a double-header weekend
• The Women’s team needed 17 points to clinch the league title
1st XI – Away at Saltaire
The equation was simple: win, and hope other results went their way.
They rose to the occasion with their best batting display of the season, posting 236. Saltaire were reeling at 86–5 when the rain came down. From there it was a tense wait, nervously checking scores elsewhere. Tong Park Esholt won, but Adel slipped up against Burley and only picked up 4 points.
That meant if North Leeds claimed the win and 17 points, they were safe. When the umpires finally called the pitch unplayable, the result stood — and North Leeds had done it. Survival secured, and celebrations erupted!
2nd XI – At the Homestead
The 2’s faced league champions Collingham & Linton CC, knowing they needed 11 points across the weekend to stay up. With Sunday’s forecast looking grim, Saturday was the big chance.
North Leeds bowled the champions out for 187, securing maximum bowling points. The chase was steady, but some key wickets fell, leaving them behind on DLS. As the sky darkened, an excellent 8th-wicket stand of 58 brought them closer. Then came the drama: rain fell, the 8th wicket went, and runs were scrambled. Everyone assumed the win had just slipped away… until the scores were checked. The match was tied, and the 2’s had 13 points — enough to guarantee safety. Cue another round of wild celebrations!
Women’s XI – Title Decider
The Women’s team had fought hard all year and needed a 17-point win over Holmfirth to be crowned Division 1 champions. During the afternoon the news arrived: Holmfirth couldn’t raise a side. That meant a concession, the points secured, and North Leeds were champions! More huge celebrations followed.
A Super Saturday
Three teams, three massive results. The men’s 1st and 2nd XIs survived, and the Women’s XI were crowned champions. Truly a Super Saturday for North Leeds CC — and finally, a chance for everyone’s fingernails to recover before next April!
