U18's defeat local rivals Shadwell to go 3rd in the League

After the disappointment of the night before, when the cup match against Menston was rained off with North Leeds in a strong position, the team re-grouped for the short trip to local rivals Shadwell.

North Leeds won the toss & decided to put the pressure on by posting an imposing target. They started well, with captain JJ & keeper Yusuf putting on 55 after the early loss of opener James. However, both fell with the score on 62 and runs then became harder to find. The spinner took 3 quick wickets, as the slowness of the pitch deceived the batsman & most struggled to time the ball & find the gaps.

Wickets fell regularly & North Leeds were thankful for Viv's rapid cameo, as he hit the last 3 balls of the innings for 6, 4 & 6 to take the score to 109 and over that key benchmark of 100.

Jack bowled quickly, opening with a maiden and then removed their opener & number 3 in his 2nd over to reduce Shadwell to 5 for 2. James then bowled the other opener & Noah & Hamed kept the pressure on, taking a wicket each to reduce Shadwell to 15 - 5 at the end of the 6th over.

A strong partnership of 47 for the sixth wicket kept Shadwell in the match, but with the run rate increasing, captain JJ had their danger man caught behind. Sharp fielding by North Leeds meant that they were always ahead of the game & they managed to restrict Shadwell to 92, securing a 17-run victory which moved them up to 3rd in the table.

This was another good team performance by North Leeds, with everyone contributing as they thankfully leave exam season behind. Next stop, finish the cup tie with Menston & hopefully the quarter finals!
