Steve beats off competition from the West Country to win national title

2014 NatWest OSCAs winners:

Behind the Scenes: Steve Wales, Yorkshire

A North Leeds CC first XI stalwart, Steve has been the club’s chairman for 10 years, re-establishing the club at the heart of the local community after a period of financial difficulty. He played a crucial role in the successful rebuilding of the club’s pavilion which was re-opened this year.

The full citation :

'Club Chairman for 10 years he has led the club from a position of financial difficulty to a vibrant successful sporting community. This culminated in 2014 with the opening of a re-built pavilion with enhanced changing, shower, toilet facilities , clubroom and balcony area

He handpicked a committee, initiated funding applications raising £180,500 in grants and interest free loans

He developed the design of the new building obtaining planning permission culminating in the demolition of the old changing rooms in November 2013 and the rebuild. He oversaw every aspect of this with daily meetings and contact with builders

He has tremendous energy running a raffle every 1st X1 match day raising money to buy a bowling machine for the 150 strong junior section (a section that has doubled over his chairmanship).

This year he has organized the refurbishment of all the seating around the ground and initiating the sponsorship of 25 benches for members of the club .

No task is ever too much for him. He is still a member of 1st X1 and on match days is selling raffle tickets, sweeping up leaves, emptying bins even with his pads before going into bat! '
