Singleton spins Leeds to tense win

The 1st XI welcomed Adel to the Homsetad on another sunny Saturday afternoon and were confident following an excellent win against Rawdon the week before. As the afternoon panned out it was Barry Singleton who stole the show with 5-18 to bowl Adel out 30 runs short of their target.

Again skipper Andrew Carson won the toss, again he chose to bat but again he was the first wicket to fall. It was a day when batsmen struggled to get in and extras (27) were the top scorer, however, everyone chipped in with something. George Wales (23), and Callum Carson and Faddi Lak (21 each) ensured North Leeds crept up to a respectable score, posting 164, bowled out in the 50th over.

After tea Farhan Khan opened the game up, ripping out three of Adel’s top order, to leave the visitors 20-3. From here though Audsley and Foster took the game to Leeds and compiled an excellent partnership of 80. After drinks Farhan returned and made a crucial breakthrough, bowling Audsley for 32 meaning he had the first four wickets. From here though it was Barry Singleton who changed the game as next over he took two in two balls, both caught behind by Cowley, the first being the crucial wicket of Foster. Adel had gone from 100-3 to 100-6 within an over and Leeds were on top. Barry the took the last three wickets to fall and ended up with 5-18 in 12.1 overs, as North Leeds won by 30 runs. He was very ably supported by an excellent spell from Farhan who took 4-54 from his allotted 15. The win saw Leeds collect 17 points and keep their position of 4th in the table.

The 1st XI remain 4th despite being rained off on June 2nd against Bilton. This weekend they hope to return to action against Guiseley at the Homestead.
