NLCC 3rds advance to the next round of the Chappell Cup

Despite the constant threat of rain & thunderstorms, the North Leeds 3rds produced a brilliant performance to beat Thackley in the first round of the Chappell cup.

North Leeds won the toss and inserted Thackley.

They were out of the blocks quickly, with Alfie Edwards taking 2 wickets in the second over of the match. Jack Fitzpatrick & Alfie bowled a really tight & dangerous spell, well supported by sharp fielding, highlighted by Jack Gothelf taking an excellent diving chance at gulley to give Alfie his third wicket.

Praji Gharpure & Harry Alldred kept up the pressure, bowling tight lines and picking up regular wickets as Thackley's batters struggled. Man of the match Harry, ended up with 4 for 12, his best senior bowling figures.

Umar Mir finished the Thackley innings, all out for just 57, after a spectacular catch by debutant Martinus Prinsloo.

With the rain & storms coming, captain JJ Alldred & Jas Riyard started quickly & took 28 off the first 3 overs before the heavens opened.

After a rain delay, the umpires took the players back out onto the pitch only to see the Thackley captain, much to the surprise of everyone present, concede the match before the prospect of the dreaded coin toss & the monsoon like downpour!

All in all, it was a thoroughly deserved win for North Leeds & a really encouraging performance.
